Manning: As complete a performance we've had
Defender Ryan Manning lauded a "dominant" Southampton win, thanks to three first half goals which saw off Preston at St Mary's Stadium.
Ché Adams hit a quick-fire double during the opening 45, before Stuart Armstrong confirmed a comfortable three points.
The second half was a comfortable affair, something which pleased Manning more than most.
"The gaffer has been crying out for that performance over the last few weeks," he said. "I think we built on the momentum we gained from Saturday, obviously with the last minute winner or whatever minute it was in and we had to use that in a positive manner.
"Today we dominated the ball, we applied pressure but probably the most pleasing thing was we sustained it for 90 minutes. We didn’t come off it we kept pushing.
"If we’ve got four more of those performances we’ll be happy. We dealt with Saturday, we dealt with the things that went wrong, we built on the momentum we gained. Tonight we did lot of positive things, good things, that we need to build on on Saturday.
"We watched them back at half time and they’re properly quality goals but that’s just hours and hours of us doing the same thing in training. We all know where we should be, what runs we should make and when everyone does it at the same time it comes off and you get goals like that which are proper team goals.
"We could have had some more but to dominate the ball in the right places, still creating chances and pressing to the end I think it’s as complete a performance as we’ve had."
