Southampton’s loanees have been in league and cup action this week, with contrasting results across England and Europe in our latest Loan Watch…

In the Emirates FA Cup, Lewis Payne made his sixth consecutive start for Newport County as they were taken to a replay by National League side Barnet.

In midweek he played the full 90 minutes in a league win against Mansfield, before featuring for just over an hour in the weekend’s 1-1 draw.

Payne played a part in Newport’s opener on Saturday, spraying a delightful cross-field pass to James Clarke who teed up Shane McLaughlin to finish.

Away from the cup, two of Saints’ young goalkeepers suffered defeats in league action as Josh McNamara and Jack Bycroft made their fourth and fifth consecutive starts respectively.

Bycroft’s Oxford City lost to Maidenhead United in the National League, whilst McNamara’s St Albans were beaten by Truro one league below.

Elsewhere, first team goalkeeper Mateusz Lis had better fortunes with Göztepe in the Turkish second division as he kept his ninth clean sheet of the season in a 3-0 win over Giresunspor.

In the league above, Paul Onuachu scored his seventh goal in 10 games for Trabzonspor when he notched in a 3-3 draw against Sivasspor last Monday, before their unbeaten run came to an end yesterday with defeat against Kayserispor.

Finally, Duje Ćaleta-Car made his return to the Lyon side in Ligue 1 for the first time since September as a late substitute in their defeat against RC Lens.
