Southampton’s ninth signing of the summer, Juan Larios became Saints’ fourth arrival from Manchester City when he signed a five-year deal at St Mary’s.

A Spanish Under-19 international, Larios moved to England from Barcelona in 2020, and was a regular in City’s Elite Development Squad in Premier League 2.

Born in Tomares, a suburb of Seville, Larios was on the books of Sevilla before moving to Barcelona in 2016 at the age of 12, where he stayed for four years.

In his first season in Manchester, the defender was a consistent starter in City’s triumphant Under-18 Premier League campaign, assisting the opening goal in the final against Fulham.

Last term he made the step up to the club’s Elite Development Squad, making nine appearances in Premier League 2, as again he contributed to another title-winning campaign.

Naturally a left-back, Larios loves to get forward and use his pace to get into dangerous crossing positions.

The 18-year-old has also featured further forward in a left-sided midfield berth, as well as at right-back, and his versatility is sure to appeal to Saints boss Ralph Hasenhüttl.

Having previously represented his country at Under-15 and Under-18 level, the Spaniard made his debut for the Under-19s in February against Norway.
