Edozie's England exit World Cup
Samuel Edozie’s World Cup dream is over after England Under-20s were knocked out by Italy in the last 16.
The Southampton winger was a late substitute for Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat in La Plata, Argentina, in which Cesare Casadei converted an 87th-minute penalty to send Italy into the last eight.
That was after England were denied a spot-kick of their own, when Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka was upended in the box.
Tommaso Baldanzi had struck an early opener, but Tottenham striker Alfie Devine brought England back on level terms before half time.
Edozie had started two of England’s three group matches, helping them to go through as group winners, but only made a fleeting appearance from the bench against the Italians.
