Edozie and Charles star on international stage
It was a good night for two of Southampton’s young internationals, as Samuel Edozie and Shea Charles both made telling contributions in victories for their countries.
Winger Edozie starred for England Under-20s, who won an engrossing encounter in the European Elite League to upset their German counterparts 3-2 away from home.
England trailed to an early goal from Paul Wanner, but Edozie’s run down the left and low cross set up Mateo Joseph to level the scores in the first half.
Ben Bobzien restored the hosts’ lead, but it was Edozie who led the England revival once more with a thumping finish on the hour mark, before Charlie Webster won the game for the Young Lions in stoppage time.
Shea Charles helped Northern Ireland to victory on his 13th senior cap
Elsewhere, it was also a productive evening for Charles, who assisted Northern Ireland’s opener in an eye-catching 2-0 victory over group winners Denmark in Euro 2024 qualifying.
Midfielder Charles played the final pass in a slick team move finished by Isaac Price, as Michael O’Neill’s side took a surprise lead in Belfast, before Bolton marksman Dion Charles killed the game with a late second.
Saints man Charles played the full 90 minutes on his return to the side after missing Friday’s defeat to Finland through suspension.
