Edozie: A happy moment
Having scored his first senior goal in Saints’ 2-1 win over QPR, Sam Edozie reflected on a perfect day for both him and the team.
Opening the scoring after half-an-hour, the winger’s milestone moment was soon cancelled out by Jack Colback’s long range strike just two minutes later, as the team’s headed in level at the break.
Chasing back-to-back league wins, Adam Armstrong popped up with his fourth goal in as many games on 64 minutes to separate the two sides and give Edozie an added bonus on a personal day to remember.
“I feel like it’s been a long time coming,” Edozie said when congratulated on opening his account. “I’m happy today’s the day and it’s finally hit the net for me, so I’m really happy and hopefully there’s more to come.
“A lot of people have been telling me in the past weeks that once the first one goes in the rest will follow, so hopefully that’s the case and I can start building on this and get my goals and assists up.
“It’s a plus that we got the win and everyone’s really happy. I know the manager grilled us at half time because he wasn’t too happy, but second half we came out and did what we needed to do and got the win, so the team’s happy and the manager’s happy.”
Having started all four of Saints’ league games so far this season, Edozie admitted he’s enjoying the challenge of the Championship.
“I’m adapting to it. It’s a different type of football, a lot more physical but I like these challenges and this is a new challenge, so hopefully a positive one for me and I’m just excited for the rest of the season.”
