Club update on the fan incident at St Mary’s Stadium
We are writing to provide an update on the incident that occurred during Saturday’s match against Rotherham at St Mary’s Stadium involving one of our fans.
Towards the end of the first half, a supporter seated in the Itchen South Stand required urgent medical assistance. Our stewards alerted one of the specialist medical teams that we have on-site, who were fortunately located close by and were able to provide immediate first-aid support. Shortly after the incident, the fan was transported to the hospital.
Due to patient confidentiality, we are unable to disclose specific details regarding the fan's condition or identity at this time. Our thoughts and well-wishes are with the fan and their family during this challenging time.
We extend our gratitude to the stewards, paramedics, and medical professionals for their response and care. We would also like to thank the other supporters in the area who reacted quickly and helped to allow an effective medical response through their helpful behaviour.
As is customary after every home fixture, our matchday debriefing will include a full review of the incident and our operations.
