Southampton's Sam Amo-Ameyaw and Jayden Meghoma came off the bench to help England Under-17s beat Iran in dramatic fashion at the U17 World Cup.

Southampton's young trio were all on the bench for their second group stage game at Jakarta International Stadium, as England fell behind against their Iranian opponents.

Abolfazl Zamani opened the scoring in the 31st minute, continuing Iran's stellar start to the tournament after beating four-time winners Brazil on the opening day.

England responded just after the hour through Chelsea's Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny, before Amo-Ameyaw and Meghoma were introduced off the bench to try and find a late winner.

In the torrential rain, with Iran tiring, the pair were lively in their 20-minute cameos as Amo-Ameyaw hit the side netting in the 80th minute after a slick team move.

Saints' young winger was then involved in the eventual winner as his driving run caused the ball to run to Manchester City's Joel Ndala, who curled in a wonderful finish from a tight angle to spark jubilant celebrations.

The Young Lions top Group C with maximum points and will conclude the group stages against Brazil on Friday 17th November (12pm GMT) needing just a point to qualify.
