Maya Yoshida praised the sense of togetherness resonating around St Mary's Stadium in the aftermath of yesterday's Premier League victory over Tottenham.

Commenting that the players felt a real connection with the fans, Yoshida thanked the injection of energy from the stands, adding that it helped the team over the line when they were under pressure in the closing stages.

The defender, who was only making his third start after returning from the Asia Cup, also reserved praise for goalscoring pair Yan Valery and James Ward-Prowse, who, in an exact replica of last week's trip to Manchester United, claimed a goal apiece.

"I think this is the first time we've won against Spurs at home since I've been here," the Japanese international began.

"It was a really difficult game, and a difficult team to play against. We tried to be patient.

"At half time the manager changed things and it worked, we had a lot of energy second half.

"Our young players have taken their chance and showed enough quality to play in the Premier League. I'm really happy for Yan [Valery] and also Prowsey. An amazing free-kick, two times in a row. He's been fantastic.

"For the fans as well, to get these three points is massive. I felt everyone together as one today. Especially after the whistle, we had a huddle and the fans were so loud.

"We have a lot of belief in one another. We're training very hard, it's high intensity, but I'm enjoying every day. I'm taking my chance to play, little by little."
