Southampton FC Women warmed up for their big FA Cup trip to MK Dons next weekend with an emphatic League Cup win over Moneyfields on Sunday.

Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s team continued their 100 per cent start to the season, as they powered their way to a 4-0 home victory at AFC Totton’s Testwood Stadium, with Ella Pusey hitting a first-half hat-trick.

Saints took the lead after 20 minutes, as Sam Burt’s cross picked out Pusey, who controlled before striking a low shot into the corner of the net.

It was 2-0 in the 37th minute, as Georgie Freeland was picked out down the wing, crossing to Pusey, who once again controlled and finished for her second of the game.

There was time for Pusey to get her third before half-time, as she latched onto a square ball from Shannon Sievwright two minutes from the break to make it 3-0.

Damage done, Pusey was substituted at half-time for Chloe Newton, but it didn’t put an end to the goals for Saints.

In fact, it was 4-0 within two minutes of the restart, as Ellie Chaffe’s through ball picked out Freeland, who showed good strength before finding the bottom-left corner.

Saints could have added more, but were denied by a string of fine stops from Moneyfields keeper Sally-Ann Thompson, as they saw out the game to reach the quarter-finals of the competition, with attention now turning to the biggest test of the season to date, in Sunday’s SSE Women’s FA Cup second-round trip to MK Dons.
