Charlie Austin says he feels confident of adding to his goal tally every time he steps on to the pitch in a Southampton shirt.

The striker celebrated his first Premier League start of the season with a brace against Everton last weekend and was on target again in the 1-1 draw at Bournemouth.

Saints fell behind to Ryan Fraser’s first-half opener, but Austin buried a low cross from Nathan Redmond in the 61st minute to earn a point at the Vitality Stadium.

“I’m in the team to score goals, work hard and help us win games,” he said.

“Luckily enough that’s what I’ve been doing – unfortunately we didn’t get three points today, but it’s a point away from home and we’ve got some big games coming up. It’s been a good week.

“I could’ve had two, maybe three – I should’ve scored the header and there was another one when if Ryan’s (Bertrand’s) cross had found me then I would’ve made it 2-1, but we deserved something out of the game.

“I’m just trying to score as many goals as I can and I know I can do it.

“At QPR I scored 18 (in the Premier League) and last year I was flying until I got a big injury.

“Now I feel I’m getting a lot of momentum behind me and I feel confident every time I go out on the pitch. I’m a goalscorer and that’s what I love to do.”
